(how) creation brings your psyche into being
and...finding your magic, picking up the ruins, and overcoming the perplexing
Hello everyone, I hope you are having a wonderful start to your week! Here is a journey into my labyrinth …I hope this provides you with something to contemplate.
A quote I have found thought-provoking…
“Everything exists; nothing exists. Either formula affords a like serenity. The man of anxiety, to his misfortune, remains between them, trembling and perplexed, forever at the mercy of a nuance, incapable of gaining a foothold in the security of being or in the absence of being.” — E.M. Cioran
I’ve been reading “The Trouble with Being Born,” which is a fascinating notebook-style read of those more “depressing” thoughts many of us have, including myself. In a weird way, reading about another’s spin on those more saddening thoughts was liberating in some weird way. I’ll have to think about this idea more and come back to you.
Anyway, thanks as always for the support! And enjoy the post:)
creation, your psyche, and becoming
First, let’s start with a quote to consider as you read through this post.
“Understand the Process of Your Thinking Suppose you had never read a book, religious or psychological, and you had to find the meaning, the significance of life. How would you set about it? Suppose there were no Masters, no religious organizations, no Buddha, no Christ, and you had to begin from the beginning. How would you set about it?
First, you would have to understand your process of thinking, would you not? — and not project yourself, your thoughts, into the future and create a God who pleases you; that would be too childish. So first you would have to understand the process of your thinking. That is the only way to discover anything new, is it not?” — J. Krishnamurti
Don’t tell me your career. Okay, maybe, but first, what does that tell me? Or better, what doesn’t that tell me? Who are you? Creation. Creating stuff is our way of becoming.
These creations bring our sense of self into being. It’s a window into the mindset of the creator, their perception of the world. So, what are you creating to shape your sense of being? What are you creating to understand your sense of self? Creation is being.
Now, creation can be anything. It doesn’t have to be “traditional” expressions of art. Cooking your favorite meal; that’s art. Journaling; that’s art. Starting a business in hopes of creating a product to help people better their lives; that’s art. It becomes the expression of yourself.
For artists, creation is often what they do to bring their identity into being — to create themselves in a way that they weren’t able to before creation. Artists are not created ex-nihilo (from nothing), they are created from their experience, and then an expression of that experience.
Now, allow me to backtrack for a moment. Your career can be your form of creation, but we rarely follow up with that discussion when we make small talk about a career. No? For example, I received a comment around this topic on how I was perceived as disregarding the topic of ones career! That’s not my intent or my point.
Careers can be an indicator of who a person is on the surface level, but the deeper and more informative conversation is how that career allows them to express their creativity, or maybe their tether to this existence. (How) it relates to bringing them into being by allowing them to relate to their existence in this world.
In a conversation with someone, they expressed how bartending was their passion. Wonderful! Their career is bartending. But what is a step deeper into understanding them? They fell in love with the art of making drinks and seeing a customer appreciate that artistic expression. The creation becomes a tether to understanding their existence by finding joy in creating joy for others through their artistic expression.
What would you consider to be fundamental? The creation of the drinks. So, the important question of, what do you create? That then leads into what you do to achieve that end. The point I’m making is the question of what do you create becomes the much more important question that we desire an answer to.
For me, art is simply about finding your form of creation or expression; the creation can be anything — music, dance, painting, writing, and sculpting. Anything that makes your mind feel full and alive is creation. I needed a form of creation that would bring me into being that would then allow me to actualize my own psyche. My form of creation — writing — is a drawing board, or mold, for me to better understand my own existence.
It allows us to bring our identity into creation by allowing ourselves to be expressed through creation. We create to hopefully allow ourselves to become less confused. So, then the question becomes, why do you create what you create?
Your answer to this question becomes a look into your myth. And your myth that is unique to your experience is your art. It’s a window into your mindset and your perception of the world.
Your magic is your creation.
(how) “God” is involved in your creation
I’ll leave you with something to ponder, and I’ll dive deeper into this in another post, but I wonder how art relates to our own perception of an image of God, your God. As I often view one’s conception of God as their mind’s method of creating some psychological ideal for them to be striving for, thus, art then becomes our method of understanding our way of creating that ideal.
This is how creation becomes our own, as we are bringing an essence unique to our own mind into being. It’s an understanding that nobody else holds, and it’s this reasoning that it becomes so important!
So, if creativity is essentially a matter of subjective interpretation, how does it relate to our concept of the ideal — and how are those ideals affected by what we consume? And we’re always consuming the work of other people! If creation can be linked with a psychological need for an ideal in relation to God, perhaps it becomes a signpost for comprehending your own creation of God.
And your conception of God is essential to understanding your own subconscious and collective conscious. That is if these two concepts interest you!
Another thought to contemplate…
You cannot wait in ruin, as the ruins are all that remain to remind you of what was, but that’s all they are—reminders. Those reminders become lessons. So, the healing process has begun and is continually ongoing, yet there’s no miracle cure or magic wand waving its mystical power over this process. We rebuild by moving on from all that remains behind, the memories and regrets alike, as the time has come to take these old stones and build anew.

until next time,
with love,

This is fascinating asking the question why we create and linking to our perception of ourselves, ideals and what we believe. I guess creation forms a virtuous circle in discovering who we are, reinforcing what we believe and giving meaning to being. Would you consider to destroy as a form of creation or an opposite. I ask because when I think of duality where we observe the repeated cycle from order there is chaos and from chaos comes order, I question if to destroy is both an opposite or form of creation.
