The Evaluation of Our Perception...a Search for Truth | What is a Hero?
How do we create our own unique perception of the world?
A perception that allows us to feel more at home within it and give back to those that encounter us.
Let’s examine…
“How do you listen? Do you listen with your projections, through your projection, through your ambitions, desires, fears, anxieties, through hearing only what you want to hear, only what will be satisfactory, what will gratify, what will give comfort, what will for the moment alleviate your suffering? If you listen through the screen of your desires, then you obviously listen to your own voice; you are listening to your own desires.”
- Jiddu Krishnamurti
I love this quote because it talks about listening and not projecting or filtering things through our own selfish desires or fears. Rather than trying to understand someone else by imposing what we want them to be on them, we should try to listen in a way that is free of projections and judgment, so we can truly understand the person speaking the words and the experience they are coming from.
As we must recognize, people who have poorly thought out and unexamined perceptions of themselves will inevitably have poorly thought and unexamined perceptions of others.
So by truly listening to others, we can help them to see themselves more clearly also. We can be a mirror for them—reflecting their own beauty and potential back to them, which in turn allows them to recognize it more in themselves. And this is how we constantly discover ourselves.
The endless process of discovery.
“Truth can be discovered by anyone, without the help of any authority and, as life is ever present, in an instant.”
- Jiddu Krishnamurti
For this one, I ask you to not get caught up in Krishnamurti’s use of truth here. This is about our perception of truth, as we live in a world that is a place with all kinds of knowledge, love, beauty, art, and imagination‚ how could we ever know everything? An opportunity for you to find your own unique perceptions and understandings are everywhere from the air we breathe, through the eyes we see, and through those eyes we make contact with.
When we remain curious, we remain open to discovering new truths. If we close our minds off and think we already know everything, then we will never learn anything new.
Truth is the path.
The path to truth is different for everyone, and it is something that we can only discover through our own experiences. However, it's through experiences with others that we see a glimpse into their own perception of truth, which creates a reflection for us to see our own.
Life is a journey, not a destination.
“Truth cannot be accumulated. What is accumulated is always being destroyed; it wither away. Truth can never wither because it can only be found from moment to moment in every thought, in every relationship, in every word, in every gesture, in a smile, in tears. And if you and I can find that and live it — then we shall not become propagandists; we shall be creative human beings.”
— Jiddu Krishnamurti
This quote has helped me perceive the world as a constant opportunity to come into newfound wisdom or new truths. As we must recognize that creativity is truth-seeking expression.
Creativity is truth discovering itself.
And remember truth cannot be compelled; it can only be received, shared, and cherished from moment to moment.
In the age of information, truth remains the ultimate craftsmanship and it can only be found when you begin creating.
Part of the reason I'm creating my Red Book and writing a dark fantasy novel...it will be my method of creation to allow myself to better discover myself and hopefully, in return, help others do the same!
Character development exercise for my protagonist in my dark fantasy novel…
